Mila SolokoffMila Solokoff is a Robust. In the frozen slums of Etyom, the last living city, she survives as a Handler; trading information in a world where knowing too much can get you killed.
Alone and with precious few allies, she has only her faith to keep her strong. Mila clings to the memory of her family and the fading remnants of an ancient Judeo-Christian religion - the ways of Yeos, the Lightbringer. Her hate for the elitist Graciles, and the Musul extremists who continue to wage a centuries-old war, is well deserved. Yet, while she is compelled to fight, she also finds herself challenged to forgive and to develop a deeper understanding of her world - the fate of humanity may well depend upon it. |
Demitri Stasevich / VedmakDemitri Stasevich is a Gracile. He is the progeny of the rich and elite; bio-engineered to resist the plague and advance the human race. By day, he holds a prestigious position as an experimental physicist.
Yet, Demitri hides a dark secret – an affliction he cannot under any circumstances allow his people to know about. He suffers from schizophrenia and dissociative identity disorder. An evil and sometimes controlling voice in his head, Vedmak, pushes Demitri to near insanity. His only respite is an illegal narcotic produced by the Robusts. His only means of obtaining it, is a journey into the arctic hell below. If Demitri's true self is to prevail, he must overcome his demon and the fear of what lies below his pristine city - a struggle that could change the course of history. |
The Gracile LeaderIt is unclear how old the Gracile Leader is. An older generation Gracile, he is tasked with leading his kind into the future. He instructs the Graciles to carry out seemingly unrelated research in quantum and experimental physics, while ensuring the Gracile lineage is kept pure and free from fault.
